Once you arrive, you’ll board a bus that takes you the remainder of the distance to Machu Picchu, which is situated at the top of a lofty ridge in Peru’s Eastern Cordillera. Once there, a tour guide will show you around to the site’s many temples, burials sites, and sacred structures. It’s a stunning piece of architecture, and what we know about its heyday is almost as intriguing as the mysteries surrounding its origin.

After the tour, you’ll return to the small town of Aguas Calientes and the Belmond Sanctuary Hotel for a teatime. From there, you can continue your tour as you please. There are a few things to see and do besides Machu Picchu, so some visitors choose to stay in the area for an extra day or two. You can also head straight back to Cusco, but this voyage is a one-way trip so you’ll need to book your return journey separately.

What to Bring

The staff will give you your Machu Picchu ticket in Cusco before you depart — keep it somewhere safe and easily accessible. Camera, comfortable clothes and shoes, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and anything else you need for your trip.
